Dear Board,

I have a couple of rods with missing or worn tip tops that I would like to fix. A long time ago I had a printed out tip top sizer where you held the rod to the black circle on the page and voila', you knew what size tip top you needed.

Does anyone have something like this you could email or post here, or do you know where I could find one?

Regards,

Tim Murphy :-)

Tim,

Isn't it just the metric system, I mean millimeters and such.

Anyway I bought a little plastic gauge thing years ago and it works great. Stick the rod end on a hole and read the number. Or stick the tip-top down on a nib and... read the number. Like $4.00 and worth it. I just have to remember to put it back in the box where I can find it the next time.

Tip top tube sizes are measured in 64ths of an inch, you dont have to be too exact, you can do a little underwrap if its a little too big. I think the mudhole catalog has a chart like youre asking about in the first few pages so maybe their website could help. If you dont end up finding one I think I have a sheet I can mail you if youd like.
