Aluminum Rod Tube Question

Rate this topic

4 posts in this topic

I finally had my rod 2 pieced.

Unfortunately un-equal pieces of two, longer one is about 68" -not to have a weak broom stick...

Anyhow trying to build a rod tube for the rod. I have couple options:

  • order a custom one from rei - gonna be expensive

  • built one from pvc - gonna be heavy

  • listen to other alternatives
I prefer an aluminum one, what I'm looking is something like 69" in length, and 3" in dia, thinner walls.

I already checked cabelas, all they have is shorther than 60"...

Where can I find such an aluminum tube, or what could be my other options.

I'm all ears

thanks

Check out Landmark Flyrod Tubes on the web. They make 3" tubes in custom lengths up to 84" long. I looked in the catalogs that I have used in the past, but they stopped carrying the 3" tubes. Contact them directly to find a distributor.

Schedule 40 PVC pipe is quite heavy and applicable to internal pressure plumping situations. It is also designated as D 2665. You can also find PVC pipe (3" and 4") designated as D 2729. This is for non - pressurized uses like drain tiles. It's much lighter than schedule 40 but strong enough to be good protection. I use it for my airline rod tubes and have never had one broken. My local Home Depot has it or any plumbing supply shop will have it. It comes in 8 foot lengths and you can find end fittings for it (or adapt schedule 40 fittings). - HPD

Crash, HPD thank you for your replies.

I checked local HomeDepot and couldn't locate that tinny wall PVC pipes, then stopped by at Dicks and bought Flambeau Outdoors Bazuka Pro Rod Case.

Kinda bulky, but it should work for me for a while
