A sad thing to read. However, it may not be the kings that have been so abused as the forage base in the Bering Sea on which they depend; the Alaska pollack fishery is intensive and there is some evidence that the crash in the Pacific Coast sea otter population is caused by intensified predation by orcas, driven inshore because the offshore forage base has been annihilated.
