Oil Spill

So I've heard that some specialists are making predictions that the oil spill will travel down the east coast. Is there any chance that the oil will reach us in the NY/LI area and effect the fishing here?

This disaster in the gulf is really stressing me out. It's that kind of stress that lingers in the back of my mind and comes to the front periodically throughout the day.

When I was a kid (between 7 - 12 years old) I used to snorkel for scallops in the Gulf with my Dad; some really great memories of the water and the people in the area. Really, really scary and sad business.

My wife said I should take a break from following this in the news because its making me "upset."

"Upset"....when the Rangers lose, I get upset. When I pour a cup of coffee and find no milk in the 'fridge, I get upset. Those 40 dollar finance charges on my credit card bills make me upset. "Upset" doesn't come close to how I feel.

Hardest part is having to watch, not being able to help.

I was watching CNN yesterday. There trying to take it serious but when you here it's gonna be a longtime before they fix it that worries me. There was a question about the british gov getting invole , Allen said no I'll ask them if you want. What's our gov doing waiting to sue bp. Come on think about all the plankton that's going to be killed? I'm so upset not mad, stuff happens just upset.frown.gif

Might be true, but that's still 9 thousand gallons more than what it should be at.

Just think when the oil settles down finally somewhere along the east coast and we get a big noreaster at somepoint and it forces all that oil to the coast we are in big trouble. I am legitimately worried.

There are a couple of great books on the Gulf Stream. I cannot recall but they do have a model for how quickly water from the Gulf reaches water off our Coast(depending on warm water eddies determines how close to the Coast). The Gulf is a nursery for BFT's and YFT's, among other critters. This is an absolute disaster, and those schmucks from BP will be seeing oil on their cold rock strewn beaches before too long. Our Government is a close second in the Pin the blame on the a*^hole game.

The good news is today (6/8) is World Ocean Day.

I am mad as hell, and once again I will be taking it out on our elected officials come Election Day.
