I took a couple vacation days off and went exploring south of the border with my little boat the "Red Drum", to a town on the northeast side of the Sea of Cortez, call Puerto Penasco/Rocky Point, with my good fishing buddies Jason "jscrib" and Kevin "Mars". The 535 mile drive from the San Fernando Valley was relaxing and super easy to drive compared to driving down Baja 1.

Here is a pic of the some of the desert scenery on the drive down.

Here is a pic of The Playa Inn where we stayed for four nights. Very cool place with a jacuzzi, pool and nice rooms. Plus, there is a great Pizza place next door called Al Capones, which makes some of the best Pizza I've ever had.

Here are some pics of our two Security Felines...tough looking Punter and Drop-Kick...and a bonus video. I almost punted and drop-kicked those cats because they were unrelenting on meowing outside our door.

Unfortunately, we didn't make it out to any of the offshore deeper spots for big Grouper, but we had a blast fishing light 8lb test tackle for easily over 500+ fish in three days of fishing.

The catching was non-stop and WFO all day long on a bunch of different species.

Here is a pic of a juvenile Grouper.

Here is how we fished our plastic swimbaits, just cut them into quarters and then fish a chunk of the plastic. We even caught numerous fish on bare lead-heads. Stupid Wide Open Fishing!!

P5151057.jpg

Kevin and a Striped Corvina, they look a lot like the Weakfish/Gray Trout on the East Coast. They croak so loud that they sounded like they were cutting a loud fart.
