lichum
Immigrants' is correct when speaking of thousands of immigrants. Immigrant's is correct when speaking of a single immigrant. My thanks to one Professor crashq. "Who is John Galt?" Who? You?
Gollum
If I am writing about the children of thousands of immigrants is immigrants' children incorrect and immigrant's children correct? Immigrants' children means the collective children of the group of Immigrants. Immigrant's children means more than one child of a single immigrant. If you want to write about the children of thousands of immigrants, immigrants' children is likely correct. How we wish to catch a fish so juicy sweet. I'm pretty sure I've (lately) been using the apostrophe correctly. If I've used it incorrectly it's too late to edit. for lichum where he has been incorrect. "Who is John Galt?" Who? You? Most people wouldn't catch it, and the few that did would be left to wonder which interpretation you actually intended. How we wish to catch a fish so juicy sweet.
