Extended Warranty Question

Rate this topic

Buying my wife's 2008 Volvo XC90 off lease. Orig warranty 50k, 4 years, basically we'll hit the mileage limit in one more year. Dealer is offering another 100k or 4 years for $1500.

My gut is always to decline extended warranties, but maybe someone has a more informed opinion than mine.

The idea behind declining on extended warranties is that most of the time they are never used, and when they are it's usually for far less than what you paid for it.

Also, the thinking is that you could bank what you paid for the extended warranty, and when & if you do have a problem, you have the money. Problem with this is that most people will just spend the difference on whatever.

View PostNegotiate it down. They have wiggle room.

I declined and declined and declined the warrantee until it was 1/3 if the asking price, then took it. I paid $300 for an additional 50k miles of coverage, and I'm DAMN glad I did.

Another 100k miles? cwm13.gif I'm thinking 100k total on the car. I could be wrong though. Is it a Volvo warranty?

Yes, up to 100k miles. Not additional. Through Volvo.

Yes. My thoughts exactly.

It covers everything except brakes, struts, exhaust and entertainment system.
