In the Projo (Providence Journal)this morning. Front page...

"One in seven residents use food stamps" (SNAP)

That is absurd!

And the enrollment list continues to grow icon24.gif

Free medical, free food, free shelter, where does it end?

I don't quite buy that number. Maybe in Providence, but not state-wide.

As for entitlements, the fact is, the more you provide, the more people will take. It has to stop.

142,351 / 1,053,209 = 13% or closer to 1 in 8, than 1 in 7.

New England needs to just hit the button and jettison RI already.....

Any state with a town called "Cranston" is not a place worth of living.

Pfft....Cranston....

What does that have to with this conversation? I'm asking what is the cause of 1 out of 7-8 people in RI needing food stamps. Seems like a bad situation, probably not a whole lot of job opportunities in the state and I was wondering why.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Waste and scrap were Rhode Island's top exports in 2009, according to information from the U.S. Department of Commerce .

Rhode Island exported over $350 million worth of waste and scrap metal to foreign countries in 2009 , making up close to 25% of all of the state's foreign exports.

Waste and scrap has been Rhode Island's top export since 2006, according to the Department of Commerce.

i'm guessing that the average income in RI is lower than other places, hence the qualification for food stamps, hence the people using it. that seems pretty simple to me.

our county deputies qualify for food stamps.

wanna talk about sad? THAT is sad.
