Line for soft plastics

11 posts in this topic

I don't make many trip s to the lakes in a season but worms senkos always work best for me and always weightless. My question type of line do you use for this type of bait/presentation. I have used 10 pound flouro cabelas own brand because it sinks easy but Ihave nothing but loops and windnots all day with it which is frustrating. Was just curious as to what #test and quality brad, mono, flouro etc fresh water guys are using.confused.gif

First off - Cabelas fluoro is garbage in my opinion, from experience.

Fluoro or mono is fine with senkos and other stick baits. Personally I use 8lbs Excel mono from bass pro shops with my stick bait.

If you want to fish fluoro - go with Berkeley Trilene 100% fluoro or Bass Pro Shops XPS fluoro. 8lbs fluoro is plenty if rigging them wacky. 10lbs maybe if you are throwing them weedless and in heavier cover...

I throw a lot of weightless senkos, either on 8 or 10lb braid. sometimes with a fluoro leader, sometimes without. leader doesn't seem to make a difference to the fish in the waters I fish.

The only problem I have is an occasional wind knot from reeling in without enough tension on the line.

I go with 8 lb. Floroclear. it has the best qualities of mono and fluoro. it pretty much eliminates all the problems mentioned below and is virtually invisible. almost 0 memory and has some weight to it. other than that, i also have 10 lb. triline mono.

All freshwater rods of mine only fishing spinning rods at the moment have 8lb Trilene XT green. I don't fish heavy cover and for all the fish we run into in MA in open water 8lb has not ever broken other than due to angler error on my part kooky.gif

icon26.gif Well heres one for you I use heavier line.... 14lb Original Stren(Smoke Green) on a baitcaster for stained to muddy water. I'll go with 10-12lb in clear water on a baitcaster. Sometimes I go weightless but most of the time I use a 1/8oz tungsten bullet weight.
