JPL
There are many fighter jets flying over Northern Manhattan/flying due east. Does anyone in No. NJ hear them?
Jeff B
No JPL, but saw a new Coast Guard mini gunboat cruising the Arthur Kill yesterday. A 22' Whaler looking thing with THREE M-60-ish machine guns hanging on it. The waterways north of the Outerbridge and Verrazano are closed to pleasure boats and commercial and tugs get armed escorts. The boat ramps are blocked with BIG concrete blocks and jersey barriers. Great Kills landfill just across the way is the dropoff point for the barges of rubble/debris/remains and the security is TIGHT. Borneo
I have heard that the authorities are very concerned about bridge attacks. I'm glad they are patrolling the waterways.

Ditch Jigger
There's been a cutter with what looks like a 5 incher on the foredeck anchored in Gravesend Bay, just south of the VZ, since the 12th. Saw another one today patrolling just off the tip of Governor's Island, plus the two smaller CG patrol boats with the machine guns. Supplemented by NYPD Marine units. Those are the "visible" precautions being taken to guard the bridges and the harbor from the water. I'm sure there are other security measures in place at all the bridges and tunnels---not a good time to have a flat tire, one would assume. As far as outbound military traffic aloft and heading east---suffice to say, it isn't a recent development. Jeff B
Another note: Teterboro Airport has been commandeered for military use only. I am told 25 nautical mile radius from Manhatten is the "zone". All regular small commercial, private and cargo is being routed via Morristown Airport - they had to close a runway there to accommodate all the plane parking. Teterboro is occupied by mostly helicopters (Apaches & Hueys)and also soem S3 Vikings. Unknown how long this will be. JB ;-)

Jeff B
MNW, a buddy of mine is a fire officer at Morristown airport and a plane buff. I asked about Rt 46 since I commute thru there sometimes on the way Hackensack Med. Center. He said it's open as usual but security around Teterboro is real tight. Crash, he said S3 Viking, and I asked isn't that a recon/jammer type craft, a lesser version Hawkeye? He said "sort of". So, not sure what their purpose is normally or what special task they meay be assigned here. Whaddya think? Listening to the USCG frequencies in our truck and they are taking no crap from boaters and taking no chances. They repeatedly announce area restrictions (all Navy and CG vessels - 500' DO NOT APPROACH zone, etc)and the time restrictionsfor certain waterways ( the Arthur Kill north of Perth Amboy and NY Harbor north of the Verrazano is off limits after 4pm I believe, not all the time). The radioman at Group Sandy Hook was yelling at a pleasure boat repeatedly earlier today to vacate a certain area that the guy seemed to think he had a right to occupy - it was hard to hear cause of static but I think I heard "...then you are ordered to heave-to and prepare to be boarded!" etc. They were seriously pissed.
