Do MPAs close access to fishing and other recreational use of the resource?

There are many types of Marine Protected Areas in the United States, and most do not prohibit fishing and recreational uses throughout their boundaries. Existing MPAs encompass a wide range of characteristics and have been established for a variety of different purposes. While a few sites exist as no-take marine reserves, the vast majority of MPAs, both in terms of numbers and area, are open for fishing, diving, boating, and other recreational and commercial uses.

So then what makes these areas "protected"? headscratch.gif

Be very wary of the terms here guys. I got a feeling if these MPAs get implimented, we can forget about access as we know it, its almost gone anyway.

On Federal Property we are already being unjustly kept out. Look at what happened on Cape Cod in the mid-80s and Cape Hatteras in 2008. They got the land now they are coming for the water.

If you can't walk out there, and you can't throw a line in the water, where else are we gonna fish?

Think of the current state budget picture. Do you think it will be a stretch for the fed to say we will buy it from the state and you get all kinds of federal funding? Look at healthcare and what Ben Nelson/ Joe Leiberman got for their homestate. I sure hope I'm wrong.

United we fish, divided we fall
