The little stuff adds up

If the democratic party wants any chance of keeping their majority they have got to get a handle on all of these small but negative stories. I'm talking about Reid's comments, Napalitano, Blago's mouth, Shumer's plane ride, Coakley's tough guy and spelling, Nelson's corn husker deal, etc.

Yeah I chalk these stories for getting more attention than they should but they are real and can't simply be swept under the rug.

I agree,

the GOP excels at turning non stories like the stupid comments of a disgraced former Governor into winning formulas,

if they ONLY cared as much about doing the job once they got into office.

well how do you suggest the Democrats shut Blago up?

should they whack him?

buy him off?

how much damage does he do the Dems? and wouldn't larger damage be done in being seen as trying to silence him?

That's the way political wars are waged because: In politics, the perception is the reality.

American journalist Ambrose Bierce defined politics as a "strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles."

Dr. M., Socialist and professor of political science: Politics is who gets what and how they get it.

I don't advocate any of that, The Dems are going to have to accept the black eye Blago is giving them. The man wants justice and will keep sniping until the Fitzgerald's investigation runs it's course. Speaking of, where is Fitzgerald and the investigation?? Is there something there people don't want getting out?

For the rest of them it's almost as if they can't see themselves and don't realize the sum of the events looks awful. They are getting sloppy and if it keeps going it's going to cost them.

I think the little stuff does get added up.

That is why most people hate our politicians. Every couple of weeks you hear about more corruption.

I dont think the constant little stuff will effect elections country wide though. Cause like I said, it doesnt take much to dig up dirt on either party.

It wont end either... Not untill we the people tell them we have had enough with both of them and vote someone else in.

Untill then, it will be more excusing bad behavior cause the other guy did it.

I would agree if you said both parties are good at turning non stories into something big, and or covering up stories trying to make them smaller then they really are.

And, if ever there is a significant third party, there will then be three "parties which are good at turning non stories into something big, and/or covering up stories which would make them smaller [or dumber!) than they are."wink.gif

yup,

however I tend to look at who is engaged in telling the stories.

I thought the GOP had harmed themselves a lot in the 2000s,

but not for a list of non-stories.

it's my experience here on SOL that one group is more active in sweating the little stuff.

I dont think so. A 3rd party would be held to much higher standards then the 2 normal ones.

A 3rd party acting like the other 2 will go nowhere fast.

Fishing sites tend to be more Republicans. So yes you would see more complaints towards democrats on a republican majority forum.

I wouldnt say that being a Rep or Dem makes you more apt to sweating little stuff the other party did though.

no,

I'd just wager that even AFTER you adjust it for the population percentages,

that the right wingers of the site spend more time at propaganda sites than the left wingers,

if a blog is being C&Ped odds are it's a right winger doing it.
