The Golfball theory

This perfect place in the Solar System was spinning and rotating around the sun for billions of years. Each millenium becoming more and more perfect as it conformed to itself and it's neighbors. Volcanos and earthquakes were the norm in forming the Earth's surface and atmosphere, as were outside influences like meteor impacts. Plants and animals came and went as the evolution of Earth proceeded through all the changes that were ocurring. The Earth's core to the outer limits of it's young atmosphere were changing naturally.

The Earth rotates at 1,000mph at the equator. This rotation is crucial to our exsistance and keeping us in a safe place in relation to the sun. If the Earth were to suddenly stop rotating everything would be violently ripped from it's surface.

Billions of years ago, before our atmosphere became stable enough for life, the Earth was spinning pretty much like it is today, but back then the effect of the spin was doing something very different. It was shaping the Earth. Making it more round, and balanced (think about the centrifcal force at 1,000mph, with less atmosphere/gravity). This made it the perfect sphere for it's environment and positioning in the solar system.

About 150 years ago man started to make serious changes to the Earth's surface, first by rerouting/damming rivers, then mining, then burning/combustion (you all know there are many, many more).

Think about a golfball and it's shape, it's flight, it's roll. Now, take off a small piece of the cover of that ball and glue it to the opposite side. Then do it again. Now, drill a very small hole in it and burn the shavings. Do that again. Now, file the dimples off a small percentage of the ball and burn those shavings too. Sure, you can still play golf with that ball (1 of the few things Tiger wouldn't hit), but some qualities of the perfect sphere are changed, like spin.

Remember, that ball, that perfect sphere we call Earth is rotating at 1,000mph while travelling though space at 67,000mph. The slightest change can be bad, very bad.

First of all the Earth isn't round, its ovoid shaped. Second, a golf ball has wind resistance and gravity to deal with, the earth is traveling through the vacuum of weightless space. So there!!!

this is your theory I take it?

changes to the surface of a golfball would influence its speed, spin, etc. because of their effect on the way air flows around the ball in flight.

space is a near vacuum.

air

vacuum

air

no air

no dice.

A golf ball rotates between 1600-5000+ rpms per minute on a drive. The drive lasting about 14 seconds. I understand where you were trying to go

with the comparison or analogy. But the attempt using the golf ball.....

well lets just say in appropriate for your point-

Imagine 10,000 sunsets and sunrises in one minute

And the Earth's surface doesn't have to deal with gravitycwm27.gif

The Earth is more ROUND than notwink.gif

The earth is influenced by the Suns gravity, and an other near Earth objects, not its own gravity. The spinning of the Earth causes it's equator to expand outward, thus the ovoid shape.

Oh no! We should be more worried about the water hazards than overheating. No one every drives a golfball into the sun, although it would probably melt on the first bounce if it hit the sun. No, bouncing off a tree into the water is the more serious threat we face. We're all gonna DROWN.

View PostYou ever see an asteroid? They're usually very irregularly shaped and always spinning and yet they don't hook or slice into the woods (so to speak). Think about it.

try flattening your swing to eliminate that slice cwm15.gif worked for me icon14.gif
