E-Z Framing Collar

I am in the final stages of finishing my basement. I just finished installing the floor and am prepping for baseboard. Throughout the whole project, I tried to hide my lally columns in the walls. I concealed all but one. I am looking for a simple yet attractive way to finish it. I came across these E-Z frame collars that look like a great idea. Wondering if anyone has used or seen these before, or am open to suggestions on how to wrap the column.

I was originally planning on just wrapping it in pine and painting it but then these collars caught my eye, they seem like a pretty easy and secure way to "dress up" a column.

I glue a metal 2x4 stud on either side of the column. Then I sheetrock all four sides. Finally I use plastic bullnose corner bead and spackle it all up. Theres actually a thread in this forum where I have pics of me doing this.
