Two Impressions From Last Night

1.) Ron Paul is too rigid an idealogue to KNOW when he is being set up. His answer to the yuppie with no healthcare in ICU was classic. I kept thinking here it comes, here it comes...and it came. I also don't know if what Santorum said was true about R. Paul's home page blaming 911 on the U.S., but if true, it puts him in the same catagory as Rev. Wright and Paul Krugman. Enjoy libertarians. This is why many won't join you.

2.) Gov. Perry sounded like a snake oil salesman in his answer on Afganistan. "Yeah, lets bring the troops home (applause) in a "timely fashion" blah, blah, blah". Typical political answer non answer. He went down in my estimation with that answer. I believe we should stay and get the job done as best as possible but if he had said "Out in six months, period" I would have given him an A for honesty.

Ron Paul is on the debate panel for entertainment value. Everyone knows he has no chance, but most like what he says on the topics. I thought Newt came across as the strongest and smartest. Romney continues to read his resume as if that will convince voters. I would like to hear more about Cain's 9-9-9 plan. Santorum and Bachman are finished, and Huntsman filled out the group with no effect.

As for Perry..... yes... he's got some issues (all politicians do), but it is still his race to lose. I thought he held up pretty good with the constant barage of criticisms. I don't agree with some of his past actions, but in reality, I don't agree with any candidate on every issue. Perry will win the nomination because of his well oiled campaign machine. If he goes on to win the WH, America will be better off than it is today. Perfect...no, but better.

Hawk,

I would vote for ANYONE ON THAT PANEL rather than vote for the failed Messiah. But those were my strongest impressions.

I've said to others, if we get a conservative in the WH in 2012 with a Rep. House and a Rep. Senate; if they don't, (within reason and politics), begin to reduce the size and cost of government, move power to the states, etc., etc.; I will never vote Rep. again. I will either vote third party or I will for the first time, not vote at all.

We've been down this road too many times with the Bushes, etc. ---Dem. lite not growing government so fast. That's BS and in part why we are in this deep do do.

The most anger I have seen over the last few days have been directed at Perry and Paul.  Their mistake?  Telling the truth.  On a merely intellectual level, its damn weird.

Agreed.

I didn't see the debate, but heard a snippet this morning where Paul was getting booed for making the point that the terrorists aren't killing us because of our freedoms (tvs/suvs/etc) but rather because of our support of Israel against the Palestinians as well as occupying their holey land, which is pretty much the same thing I heard this weekend while watching shows about terrorists who were being interrogated. They said the same damn thing.

I felt the audience had a very "Jerry Springer " feel to it. The opening festivities as they brought the canidates out was missing only some pyrotechnics to put it up there with the WWF. I did not hear much from any of them that would give me enough confidence to trust them with my kids milk money.. :(

Why do you think the opening was produced as it was?

I keep hearing that, too, but here's the queer thing about all that. Israel isn't occupying THEIR land. Israel is supported by a lot of different countries. And the queerest thing of all is that if Israel is the problem, why didn't they fly planes into Israel instead of attacking the US, which is only an uneasy ally? There's more to it than Israel. It seems to me that Israel is the excuse for the behavior rather than the reason for it.

Did you ever hear anything from Obama that would give you confidence to trust him with your kid's milk money?

I don't know if there is or isn't.

When did we first become a target? The first thing I recall is the Iranian embassy.

everyone one needs a scape goat

there is no logical connection

so long as they view their governments as being corrupted by US money, the blame game will continue

The invasion of Iraq using Saudi soil was the moment that Osama bin Laden was able to galvanzie his following.

Isreal is another excuse.

You can't explain people who want to cut their noses to spite the faces

"... let it go - lets move forward."

agreed. it was pretty fuunny having the TP audience cheer the yuppie in ICU dieing. especially on the heels of the last crowd cheering the number of executions in TX LOL!

Perry struck me as pretty inept. He had tremendous trouble answering any questions where a soundbite wasn't enough. Mitt won this debate again.

But the crowd liked Perry.

The Tea Party is ANGRY. They want some one who is ANGRY and TOUGH. If Perry shows enough fire and brimstone, his policies, his record, his debate performances won't matter. The Tea Party is going to nominate on feelings. It's what they do, it's who they are.

This is looking like a replay of the last congressional election where the TP threw up all these horrible candidates.

we are already seeing it here in the PG:

"well Perry may be a Democrt, he will grow the government, he will raise taxes, but dag nab it! He'll be better than Owe-bamie!"

Occupation of Saudi (the land of the Prophet) by a "crusader" infidel army (to protect them from Saddam after DS1) was an excuse and one of the reasons we took out Saddam, IMHO. We've been backing Isreal since 1948 so that excuse is BS. I really believe that these people see us as a corrupting and ugly influence on all of Islam with our porn, bikinis, booze, drugs, abortions, etc., etc. They hate us for our decadence. On that, I can't totally blame them but the terrorism means we kill them all.

BTW, they were hijacking airplanes and killing people back in the 60s and 70s BEFORE THE AYATOLLA. They hate the Jews and feel exploited by the West.
