A 17-year-old young woman from Teaneck, New Jersey, Yael Dana Neugut studied arsenic metabolism and renal function in an arsenic-exposed population in Bangladesh. She found that the association between urinary excretion of arsenic metabolites and creatinine is likely due to their shared metabolic pathway, and that creatine may be an effective way to prevent and treat long-term exposure to arsenic. More than 100 million people worldwide are chronically exposed to high levels of arsenic and are at risk of serious diseases, such as cancer and heart disease. A randomized trial of creatine supplementation is currently underway in Bangladesh.

For her work she won a Davidson Fellowship Award that comes with a $25k prize.

It's amazing where some of the world's discoveries come from. A spoonful of the powdered with some water to wash it down. That's how I used to take creatine and that stuff was one hell of an energy booster. It helped my lift and stay awake in class.

My father is the head of a Universitys research facility (not naming the school)and there is a guy there who created a nano technology that can be poured into a contaminated source and seperate arsenic, as well as all other bacteria and leave it perfectly clean. Mass production is a major hurdle here, this guy has been furnished millions in grants and still cant pump out enough. check out Laos, Vietnam, parts of China.....all have massive problems with this, Mercury is another issue from what he says.

This discovery has no real cash value for her. There's nothing to patent. She didn't create anything. She made a clinical discovery. If she'd have found out that stuffing aspirin up your rectum every day prevents the common cold, it wouldn't have had a dollar value for her, either. Aspirin companies, however, would undoubtedly increase sales, though.

But if she lawyers up and gets in step with a pharma company, they come out with a new arsenic poisoning drug which just happens to 99% creatine with some powdered sugar for kicks. Wonder drug save 100,000,000's of third-world people and she wins a nobel prize. Also, that way when somebody shoves an asprin up their ass, she gets 25%...

Unfortunately, probably not. frown.gif

Her research will merely be referenced in the public domain by companies already selling creatinine to justify claims. They'll just pay to reproduce her study.

She would have to invent a new compound or if she wishes to be a persona then hire a PR rep so that her name could be used on a product such as you mention. The latter would be the equivalent of "selling out" in the scientific community.
