Hey, just wanted to get some opinions on Ikea. I love the stuff. I got into a discussion about its quality with someone who called it "ikea crap." Was just looking for some good or bad reviews. thanks joe

It's good and bad. I've never had any problems assembling it and if you screw something up, replacement hardware is mass produced and can be found at Homies etc. There are different types of materials used from particle board with veneer to solid wood. If you look at the actual pieces you're getting with the solid wood stuff you can end up with some decent quality furniture.

I will agree with the fact that things like drawer slides and mechanical devices from them flat out suck. If it's got ball bearings in it you can figure that it'll crap out at some point. I've gotten 8 years out of my solid pine chests of drawers and half the slides are gone. One of these days I do intend to replace them though and the furniture should last for decades. That also goes for the rest of the bedroom set which has been trouble free.

It ain't handbuilt cherry furniture made of the best components, but it doesn't cost as much either. IMHO its not bad for the money but you always get what you pay for.

pretty much sums it up

it's ok for an apt, I wouldn't use most of it in a house

depends what you want it for: Have had a coffee table that's lasted 15+ yrs

Bought kids furnature (2 dressers, nightstand, table w/ 4 chairs)

Draw on the nightstand is crapola but all else is good

Also bought a chair / loveseat futon type and they have been fine as well - got them for the kids playroom

not bad for the $ - but can be a PITA to assemble
