Fortunately the "Commander in Chief" only directs a war in the most general of ways. It's the Joint Chiefs who do the strategic heavy lifting. If that weren't the case I suspect as incompetent as the last set of bozos were we'd not only have lost every troop we sent to Iraq but they would have invaded us and won.

What planet are you from?

Please enlighten us. On this rock, the political entity has an immense influence over the decisions of the military minion.

Influence on the overall picture, but not on strategic matters. You make it sounds like he's going to play Hitler ordering troop movements in detail.

LBJ used to sit in a room with his advisors and pick out which villages to bomb in viet nam

seriously

but i think obama has confidence in his leadership team and for the most part defers to their judgement

apparently some of our less informed posters have failed to notice that we have INCREASED our military activity in afghanistan as our ability to do redeploy assetts in iraq allows

He is the leader of the free world yet he spends half his time debating whatever Rush or Hannity said on the radio that week or commenting on disorderly conduct charges.

These are not signs of a step back and look at the big picture type of leader.
