dont want a catch and release debate here. just post what you think the regs should be. everyone knows best and w/o hijacking the other thread lets put yer $$ where yer mouth is.

w/o changing the dates of an open and closed season and further confusing to the newbs getting into the sport.

2 fish bag

1 fish from 24-40"

1 fish 44+"

still leaves the posibility of a WR fish being caught (cause it will happen in a bunker school in the near future). protects a lot of the breading stock. and gives the real fish eaters a nice tender filet lacking pcb's and merc that all of these cowboy stripers guys love.

w/ dates being changed along with size and bag.

ocean open all yr

bays/rivers (tidal) open march 1 - april 30

2 fish 28" +

may 1 - july 1

2 bag

1 fish 24-36"

1 fish 44+"

after july 2

2 fish bag

1 fish 24-28"

1 fish 28"+

it will cut the mortality of large in half. and still give some time to breed/feed w/o being harrassed. you can still bag a nice fish if thats your thing. and take a table fish if it so happens.

I think they should make limit 1 fish 28-34" and thats it anything over or under should be released. Save the COWS.

Take a picture of a bigger fish it lasts alot longer in memory.

The current regs are bound to seriously reduce the breeding stocks, all out slaughter on the spring run.

Close the spring run for 5 years (stop the spring slaughter)

otherwise one fish 24"-30" daily

No fish between 30-36 will certainly increase the larger stocks

Two tags for fish over 36" per year.

do this for 5 years then adjust the regs.

In 5-10 years bass over 60# will be much more common, IMO

I used to like the one 24-28 and one 34" and over....but think that having a year tag for the two larger fish is a good suggestion. having a catch and release only w/ circle hook mandate would also be a good idea during the spring months on 34" + fish.

View PostWhat, a thriving striped bass fishery that our children's children can enjoy?

When I started fishing for striped bass, the year after you were born, the old timers told me about the lean days in the 1950's and how the fishing rebounded. It happened again in the1980's and the regulators took the credit for that. If it happens again, there will be less pressure put on the resource and it will rebound again. You cannot regulate the ecology.

A decline in the 50's probably had a lot to do with all the pure raw chemicals being dumped straight onto the spawning grounds. The decline in the 80's was purely overfishing......
