New to plugs, Got a question

Hi,

Since hooking and catching my first and only Striper last week, the fever has set in. All I think about is catching another one!! I caught it on a Hopkins metal. After seeing and reading lots of the posts about plugging I want to give this method a try too drool.gif .

So, I bought two plugs, A 2oz cotton cordell pencil popper and an old but never used 2oz Stan Gibbs wooden bottle plug. I've never used a plug in my life but want to try. The gibbs plugs eye is big enough for me to use a clip on my leader but the Cordells eye is very small and the clip, even though also small, is still too big and would affect the lures action. I'm wondering if I should put a split ring, large enough to occommodate the clip on my leader or should I direct tie?

Can some of you more experianced offer some help?

Thanks

I use a #54 duolock snap, and while it takes longer than most plugs, both the one and two ounce Cordell pencils will fit just fine.

So you see you have some choices to make. Try em and see what works best for you.
