Fished Wendsday, headed out into the Bay and started marking schools of 7inch sand eels. Lines down and with a 10kt east wind a good drift was set up. Right away we were hooked up on big fish. Eventually lost count on numbers of fish over 30 inches but did count 4 of them being over 40 inches. All fish over 40 were relased to swim another day. A few big blues mixed in, and almost no dog fish, 1 odd looking shark was caught bigger than a dog fish but with quite the set of teeth, not sure what it was.

Maybe a sand tiger shark?

They migrate to this area to breed among the marshes in a river not to far from me.

They just started keeping track of them a couple years ago to see what numbers show up. The past two summers have been amazing. Many, many more than expected spawning in the river. A friend landed an 8' last summer for study up at the aquarium.

They are protected though so they must be released. Unfortunately those fishing in Deluxbury last year did not know this and the swarms of young sharks were thrown on the sand to die like garbage.mad.gif

Perhaps they are showing up now. They usually don't make their way into the river til' late august.

Or maybe a mako?cwm15.gif Hmmm...
