Worm hatches might be better called worm swarms. Small (1") to large (over a foot) aquatic worms swim and swarm near the surface looking to mate. Stripers feed on them, often much like trout feeding on a hatch, by holding in the current and waiting for the worms to come to them. Of course, sometimes you'll find cruising fish as well.

Do a google search (or a search on this site) for details on how to fish them. (I usually use a mutli-fly rig suspended near the surface, a floating line, and a dead-drift presentation.)
