FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Former major league outfielder Mel Hall was found guilty Tuesday of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he coached on an elite basketball team a decade ago... Hall's accuser, now 23, testified Monday that Hall engaged in sex acts with her in various places, including her home and Hall's apartment... Hall was impressed with the girl's talent and wanted to start a basketball team, according to testimony. Soon, he was giving the girl private lessons and stayed in the family home while he was apparently building a house in a nearby suburb. The woman testified that Hall first exposed himself to her and her younger brother at home, when their parents were away. The boy testified that he thought they were playing a game and never told his parents. Hall's interaction with the girl progressed to inappropriate touching and him showing her how to perform oral sex, she testified. She said he also showed her pornographic movies at an apartment Hall shared with his girlfriend and their infant son.

Of course, pointing out that he spent more years with both the Cubs and Indians than he did with the Yankees, would be wasting time. rolleyes.gif

I always thought Mel was a skuzzball, there were a handful of them on that 89/90s team, as a kid left me scratching my head what was going on with the franchise. Never mind that fellow teammate Louis Polonia was busted for having sex with an underage girl.

I think people here know I would love an opportunity to bash a Yankee anytime I can. But with that said....

1) before we even get into the legal issues, the guy was just a Stankee for a very short portion of his career (it's kinda like that thread where that DUI killer Stallworth was identified solely as a Patriot when that only represented a small portion of his career well before his incident occurred)

2) But even more importantly, for some reason, I've always had a problem with these stories where someone comes out 10 years or more after the fact to accuse someone of a heinous crime. I'm sure that there are legit cases where someone was so intimidated, ashamed, or in denial, causing the delay in reporting the crime. But I have a gut feeling that for every one of these stories that pans out to be true, many are false. But then again, I'm just an armchair observer thousands of miles from where the case was tried.
