depends. I will tell you VERY likely conditions at the jersey shore for typical types of weather.

Sunny weather, normal day-SOUTH/SSE/SSW

First day into rain-SSE-SE

Middle day(s) of rain-E/NE/N

First day-1.5 days after Storm -N/NW/W

90% of summer is South Wind. Lot of fall is NE and NW, Lot of winter is NW.

Very general, but gives you an idea.

It seems to me that right when the wind switches to the NE the fish turn on - after that I think the NE slows the bite down. W and NW winds they seam to bite and the S just makes the water dirty. Like you said, It always seems to be coming from the NE though

Can also depend on time of day assuming there are no fronts in the area. Early morning - no wind with land and water perhaps at the same temp. As the land heats up from the sun the wind begins to pick from sea to land (SE) because of the temp difference. Wind seems to want to flow from cool to warm. End of summer day it's screaming out of the S/SE until the sun goes down and then the land cools and the flow slows/stops till the next day. Opposite winds in the winter since the water is typically warmer than the land.
