As I was reading the title of your post, there was an ad for sunglasses on top of the page and I checked it out.

Are we allowed to post links to the ads that are now part of SOL?

If so, here it is.

If not, mods please delete this.

I like the "South Beach" in the polarized section.

Calcutta Sunglasses are polarized, decent styles, and $20 at most places.

They dont hold a candle to the Costas, but they are eye fatigue protection and are great for seeing down into the water.

If you have the means and wherewithal I highly suggest getting the most expensive pair you can afford to LOSE/Break. Since I seem to break or lose multiple pairs a year, I opt for glasses in the Sub $50 range that are polarized. I have found the calcuttas to be a great value in cheap suns...

View PostHow do these attach?

Attachment 250025

They attach right on to the sides of a baseball cap. I wear the VS hat with the extra long bill. When the sun is in your face, you flip down the Muellers and you're golden. Again, the front of the bill is still free and clear to clip a light on. I actually also have a fleece ear cover thing with a slot in it as well that you can slip the bill of the cap thru. Keep you warm when it's cold out. With these three things attached to the cap your really have an nice set-up. The fleece ear thing can are sold by Duluth, but you can get them other places as well.

I have not read the entire topic here, but I would advise someone to do research on this topic please. That includes other than on this site as well.

I work for the guide dog foundation for the blind. This means that I have to know something about what causes some eye disorders. I am not even close to an expert, but I do know that you need to protect your eyes while you are out there. Just having a comfortable pair of glasses may not be enough.

My opinion is that my eyes are worth more than all my equipment put together (a reference to not wanting to spend more than the cost of a rod).

They effects of sun light are cumulative and sneek up on you.

That's the end of my speach. Good luck in your search.

I wear Costa Del Mar by the way and I love them.

A handfull of years ago I picked up a set of Smith Boomerangs.

They're intended for mountain biking and the lenses snap out.

I found them really quite nice for fishing as there's a polarized lense, a yellow lense and a clear lense. When the wind gets moving and I've got the fly rod out I like the extra protection.

View Postmy $30 pair of Polar Eyes out preforms my $175 pair of Maui Jim's............

same thing here! I have a pair of polar eyes and I love them, cheap compared to the others I have had. I loved my mauis but I bought the polar eyes as a back up just in case and I wear them much more, I hated oakleys when I wore them, I dont think I'll ever buy another pair.

I do have to say I am thinking about going with a pair of costas, I want to get a pair with glass lenses finally. but I love my polar eyes!

I have the Oakley fishing specifics, and they are very nice. Bottom line is the more you spend, the better glass you will get.

Try your optician as well. You may be able to get a prescription and get them at a reduced cost.

Or, as Bell helmets used to say back in my motorcycle days, "if you think you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet".

Dark lenses without adequate UV blocking can actually damage your eyes more than being without sunglasses.

I bought a pair of hobie glass lens last year, they are excellent. the clarity verus the cheapies is very noticable( at least to me)-no distortion around the periphery. I picked them up at sierra trading, they were the previous years model and discounted substantially.
