Broken SS10MHS -- Please Help

1 post in this topic

A finished prototype SS10MHS of mine recently snapped at the ferrule on the bottom section when casting 5 oz and a small strip of mullet filet on Hatteras Island.

I would like help selecting a replacement Lamiglas blank or finished rod to use for fishing heavy lures and bait. I will most often be fishing NJ and DE, but will also fish Hatteras once a year or so. Ideally, I would prefer a custom rod wrapped with low rider guides. I would like to use the rod to fish both conventional and spinning, with distance casting being a priority. For conventional, I would use an Avet SX and for spinning, I would use a Van Staal 250 or Daiwa Emblem Pro. The SS10MHS felt very tip heavy to me and wonder if this may have contributed to the break. I don't foresee casting over 6 oz very often, if at all. Should I select a blank or rod rated 2 - 6 oz. or 4 - 8 oz.

It as been a long while since I posted on the Forum, so I'm trying hard to come up with a good joke! I will post one as soon as I have one that is worthy. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a St. Croix Legend 10' 6" 3/4 - 4, an SS9MS prototype and a custom XSRA1084-2, so I am well covered for lighter plugs. Thanks again!
