So after I built a larger darter with a metal lip last year for fun and tinkered around here a there since. I've finally came up with a design I like. I tested three different shapes and all swam great. I'm really getting pumped for the season nowbiggrin.gif

Purp is 2oz and 5 1/2 inches

Trout is 2.5oz and 6 1/2 inches

Smokey Joe is 3.25oz and 7 1/2 inches

I formed the lip from a jerkbait tail. It always seemed like something could be made from it to me. It looks thin but is surprisingly strong and stable.

View PostGreat shape, nice job. Did you make the lip?biggrin.gif

They are floaters but as soon as you engage the reel they dive down 1/2 foot on a slow retrieve and swim like a metal-lip underwater. I was able to crank them down to 5 feet and hold. But the cool part is on a fast retrieve they will occasionally swoosh in a pengelum swing right and left and go back to a steady cadence.

And they do cast well Rollin.

View PostExcellent, New and innovative, love them.

How and where do they swim ? Top & shallow is my guess

View PostVery nice!

Very curious how they swim, I bet they cast well.
