Why does our government lie to us about Israel having The Bomb?

Why does our government treat us like rubes or little children?

US Army Confirms Israeli Nukes

The Army has let slip one of the worst-kept secrets in the world --

that Israel has the bomb.

Officially, the United States has a policy of "ambiguity" regarding Israel's

nuclear capability. Essentially, it has played a game by which it neither

acknowledges nor denies that Israel is a nuclear power. WHY?

But a Defense Department study completed last year offers what may be

the first time in a unclassified report that Israel is a nuclear power.

On page 37 of the U.S. Joint Forces Command report, the Army includes

Israel within "a growing arc of nuclear powers running from Israel in the

west through an emerging Iran to Pakistan, India, and on to China,

North Korea, and Russia in the east."

The single reference is far more than the U.S. usually would state publicly

about Israel, even though the world knew Israel to be a nuclear power

years before former nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu went public

with facts on its weapons program in 1986.

Sorry, Punk, at least once a day your partisan traits shine through in the many trolls you leave for the angry right. By bashing one side, and in many instances protecting the other whilst completely turning a blind eye to reality is exactly what I meant.

Punk, we are now living under an oligarchy, controlled by a small group who's only desire is to accumulate more and more power. The interest of the American citizen is not a priority to these people and everyone here, including you, know it. They keep lining their pockets (along with the CEOs) and keep driving a wedge between the two sides to further their quest for power. It's rather simple and transparent.

Israel, India, Pakistan and North Korea aren't parties to it. The first three never signed it. North Korea initially signed it and then renounced it.

By the way--France has never officially ackowledged that they possess nuclear weapons. Nor has China. The only 3 countries that have openly disclosed their nuclear status are the US, Russia and the UK.

Yep, THEY use multinational corporations to amass and maintain that control.

But why lie about Israeli nukes?

What is the connection between the oligarch/corporatists and Israel?

How do they benefit from their "ambiguity"... a lie of omission.

Fair enough.... lots of bad actors on the nuclear stage

But why the special treatment of Israel?

Is the U.S. "ambiguous" about other nations nuclear capabilities?

Why no efforts to make them NPT signatories?

I don't believe that making them sign it would require them to dismantle their stock of weapons. As far as anyone knows, the only once-nuclear power that disarmed is South Africa.

India and Pakistan get the same "special treatment", no? All we officially know is that each have tested a weapon--we have never publicly stated how many deliverable weapons, if any, they have.

Israel has never even acknowledged a test of a weapon, so how can we be anything but ambiguous?

Israel 'has 150 nuclear weapons'

_44690574_carter_226i.jpg Mr Carter was speaking at the UK's Hay-on-Wye literature festival

Ex-US President Jimmy Carter has said Israel has at least 150 atomic weapons in its arsenal.

The Israelis have never confirmed they have nuclear weapons, but this has been widely assumed since a scientist leaked details in the 1980s.

Mr Carter made his comments on Israel's weapons at a press conference at the annual literary Hay Festival in Wales.

He also described Israeli treatment of Palestinians as "one of the greatest human rights crimes on earth".

Mr Carter gave the figure for the Israeli nuclear arsenal in response to a question on US policy on a possible nuclear-armed Iran, arguing that any country newly armed with atomic weapons faced overwhelming odds.

"The US has more than 12,000 nuclear weapons; the Soviet Union (sic) has about the same; Great Britain and France have several hundred, and Israel has 150 or more," he said.

Israel's nuclear programme

"We have a phalanx of enormous capabilities, not only of weaponry but also of rockets to deliver every one of those missiles on a pinpoint accuracy target."

Most experts estimate that Israel has between 100 and 200 nuclear warheads, largely based on information leaked to the Sunday Times newspaper in the 1980s by Mordechai Vanunu, a former worker at the country's Dimona nuclear reactor.

The US, a key ally of Israel, has in general followed the country's policy of "nuclear ambiguity", neither confirming or denying the existence of its assumed arsenal.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert included Israel among a list of nuclear states in comments in December 2006, a week after US Defence Secretary Robert Gates used a similar form of words during a Senate hearing.

Former Israeli military intelligence chief Aharon Zeevi-Farkash told Reuters news agency he considered Mr Carter's comments "irresponsible".

"The problem is that there are those who can use these statements when it comes to discussing the international effort to prevent Iran getting nuclear weapons," he said.

'Imprisonment'

During the press briefing, Mr Carter expressed his support for Israel as a country, but criticised its domestic and foreign policy.

"One of the greatest human rights crimes on earth is the starvation and imprisonment of 1.6m Palestinians," he said.

The former US president cited statistics which he said showed the nutritional intake of some Palestinian children was below that of children in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as saying the European position on Israel could be best described as "supine".

Mr Carter, awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, brokered the 1979 Egypt-Israel peace treaty, the first between Israel and an Arab state.

In April he controversially held talks in the Syrian capital Damascus with Khaled Meshaal, leader of the militant Palestinian movement Hamas. The former US president's Carter Center was unavailable for further comment. cwm27.gif

It's been common knowledge that Israel is a nuclear power for so long that I can't even remember how long it's been. 20 or 30 years maybe. Next, you should crack the conspiracy behind the contents of Al Capones' vault. By the way, the Us govt never formally announced that I have a boat trailer. WHY ARE THEY LYING ABOUT MY BOAT TRAILER!!!

Jimmy's a little behind the curve on the number of warheads in our arsenal, and in Russia's. We probably have closer to 12,000 between us than apiece.

And yeah, Jimmy--the Soviet Union hasn't existed for almost 20 years now--I presumed that you got the memo on that. Maybe I shouldn't have, but yeah--ol' Boris the Drunk jumped on a tank in Red Square and the house of cards came tumbling down. It was even on CNN.

I don't think we even had 12,000 deliverable warheads at our disposal when he was President at the height of the Cold War.

We've dismantled thousands of aerial bombs and single missle warheads as they became obsolete.

Well it appears that there are plenty of sources that

"confirm" Israel has The Bomb, so why the "ambiguity" stance?

Is this like pleading the 5th?... neither confirm nor deny?

Where did Israel get the technology to build The Bomb?

Ditch, I agree about the Pakis and Indians.

Pakistan is proliferating, and we are helping India.

It seems WE have some problems complying with the NPT as well.

epanzella, if it's so blatantly OBVIOUS, why the "ambiguity"

Who you carrying water for here?

wraith, what is a lie of omission or dissembling?

You do understand that creating a misconception IS a form of Lying, right?
