Perusing my wife's copy of the Sibley's Guide, the closest match I can find is the Northern Harrier.

Slender and buoyant with an owl-like facial disc. The Northern Harrier is usually seen coursing over fields and marshes. It captures small birds and mammals with a sudden pounce.

View PostMale Northern Harrier... Sometimes referred to as the "Gray Ghost".

Rabbits are not usually on their diet, must have been an easy meal.

Nice look...

From the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website:'

The Northern Harrier feeds primarily on mice, other small mammals, and small birds. It will, however, take larger prey, such as rabbits and ducks. It has been known to subdue large prey by drowning it.
