Bird ID help

While I was walking to work this morning, I caught a glimse of a bird moving back and forth on the branch. The bird on the tree wasn't that high so I was able to get a clear look.

It is only about 3-4 inches long, a little bit bigger then a sparrow. It has a red head, short thin beak, and black and white spots on it's wings. My guess it's a woodpacker, but not sure which kind. I was right under it about 3 feet from the bird. Usually they will fly away but this one didn't.

Anyone have a clue out there?
