I just put on side 3 (now 4) of Sandanista. It's awesome! It's not punk but demostrates what so good about the Clash - that they progressed into so much more than any other band of that ilk and that era.

View PostFunny because the Clash used to joke about the Punk Police criticizing what people wore. The Clash sort f did what they wanted (at the time) which became part of the greater uniform. That attitude carried over to the directions they took with their music. The later albums which are often criticized (I used to dislike them as well) are more the result of them doing what they wanted instead of what was expected by them by either the masses or the record companies. As far as selling records the Sex Pistols never left any room fr error. They were in it to make money.

I never gave the Brit punks a whole lot of credit, except for the Clash and the Soft Boys. Most of the bands were knockoffs of American bands with a major fashion twist, bad teeth and a whole lot of pent up anger. To me, the real punks never even knew they were punk. The Clash grew way past the mold that they were cast into. God bless them. beers.gif

View PostI have Black Market Clash on 10" vinyl. I also have Sandanista on triple LP.

Me too...dig 'em both...that 10" BMC is only going to increase in value...dub it to MP3 and let it sit...

If you like that era of The Clash, you need to pick up some Mikey Dread stuff - tough to find on vinyl, but available on CD. He's out of his mind, but the production is very cool.

I was at the Paladium that night when that photo of Paul was taken and I even had that whole show live on a cassette tape ,a girl in our crowd used to get us into every show at the paladium for free her uncle was the Fire Marshal. Man those were great days....nothing compares to The Clash at Bonds though I seen at least 10 shows there.....and the best thing at the convention center in Asbury wasnt Leftys or Skippys it was when The only band that matters showed up in the early 80`s I actually met the band, the show ended early when Joe got blown up by a blockbusterconfused.gif they were leaving in a big station wagon and we indulged a little. One thing I did in my youth was see alot of different bands prolly hundreds from the time I was 13(had a cool older brother it helped)for me There was no better live show then The Clash man I miss those days ( I guess your getting old when you agree youth is wasted on the young..........or was I just a wasted youth smile.gif...........Johnny
