Or do most codes allow PVC?

Replacing the waste line has been a project "on the horizion" and this spring/summer looks like the target.

Probabaly have to jackhammer about 12' trench from the main stack to the house vent.

On Long Island, NY a plumber friend who helped me install a toilet in my basement said the code called for cast iron. We used PVC anyway and he said it would be fine. PVC is much eaiser to work with and does not require special tools to snap the pipe. Not much to see after the job was finished.

The codes are way behind technology in New York.
