Shorter Rod Updates?

Redington Predator 7'10' at $199 and Ross FlyStik 7'11'' at $169 look really intresting line of rods. There are no bad rods these days and I believe these are great new choices.

It is great that rod manufacturers have started to sell shorter than "standard" 9ft. Perhaps it is because of that Bass Tournament rule but they are great anywhere when lots of casting with high line speed and big flyes are used.

Back in the 80's we did a thing with Fenwick Steelhead blanks, like extremly fast taper 8'6" "E" glass SH 1024 things. They had an enormous grain range, like they handled lines from 10 to 14/15 weight and pulled 13.7lbs on a direct pull. And they chucked very big flies.

They were pretty good fished off rocks and worked very well on our local bass.

Rod Harrison did pretty well on Papuan Bass with the SH1024.

Seems that things go around in circles, and the basic idea of a short fast taper rod is really old hat.

Although it does really work. I'd like to try some of the graphite Steelhead fast taper blanks, but I guess it would be hard to fid blanks as cheap as those rods.
