If that is a recent photo, that seems to be a tad more than a few scouts. Also just wondering since you are allowed to take them as an Indian, what are you taking them for this early? freezing for bait, or do you eat them?

Is that a recent picture or are you just messing?? Sure looks good. Are you eating herring? I can eat them pickled and at the fish fry with beans but much more than that and it would kill me.

In the olden days in Pembroke every widow and orphan got 3 barrels. They sure must have got sick of herring for dinner..

View Postnot supposed to take them anymore HF

Are'nt there two kinds of herring... the fresh water herring or regular sea herring. I thought the ban was on the fresh water herring only.

Are these sea herring???

View PostNow isn't this kind of early? That water must be freezing !!!

Not really. They show up in late February often in the Namasket. Late February / early March every year. Some years they have shown up in mid february.
