As in, "scrape it off?"

Never had any success at that. Re-rocked a few. Also found that they have patch kits at the box stores for various textures.

That's for sure. If it's real stipple you'll never get it off, stuff is hard as a rock and binds to the sheetrock paper like primer.

 

Sprayed on popcorn will come right off like Cabo says.

Lots of water (spry bottle) and it practically falls off. You will most likely have to skim coat and sand the ceiling after.

Yup. The water should soften it up enough to make removing it easy.

 

However - before I'd do that, I would knock off high spots (if any) and skimcoat right over the existing ceiling. The new coat should bond nicely to the old.

Hang 3/8" blueboard and get a good plasterer....problem solved.

 

If your not experienced in skimming out joints they can look awful.
