i remember seeing it awhile back, the differences between the two? I think i remember reading the yellow versions were made better, lasted longer. Could anyone point me in the right directionredface.gif ...

Is 85.00 shipped a good deal on the black 6500 NIB?

The black reels have a slightly higher gear ratio. I don't own one but since we are usually working a lure as slow as possible, I don't see it as a benefit of black over yellow.

I own two of the yellows. Rumor has it that the black reels have the gears strip out more often than the yellows.

85 bucks isn't a bad price though just as long as you know the gears may strip out on you.

View PostI went thru 3 of the black ones when they first came out. I'm pretty sure they made the gears out of silly putty.

My guess is they used the same gears as they did with the normal Nautils. They just cast them with more teeth to make up the higher gear ratio. These gears with more teeth just weren't made out of strong enough metal to put up with the abuse.

I have a Black 7500 that has worked fine since Day One and a Black 6500

that blew up after 3 seasons. Since then, I've picked up 2 more 6500's

that are still working fine. If I can get 2-3 seasons out of them, they're

worth the $85.- to me with no worries about an anodized finish...I think

they were last made ~ 5yrs ago so parts would be difficult to find but I

think Mitchell makes an all aluminum (no rubber boot) version called

the ALU 28??? Some of theose parts (bails) may be interchangable.

ALU 298=6500, ALU398=7500.
