I saw this local TV show while down in Florida last weekend..they had the footage of the first Miami Raft Invitational. Amazing..one guy had 2 sailfish on at the same time. The rafts were handmade and they used live baits and chumming for the billfish...only a few miles off the beach too. Wish we had this fishing in NJ!

The Bite TV 1st Annual Miami Raft Invitational Tournament Scores 14 Sailfish Releases

Miami Beach, May 11, 2005. Making good television was the goal of this tournament, the brainchild of Capt. Matt Tambor, host, and the producers of the SunSports TV show, The Bite. Ten well-known, tournament-winning billfish captains were invited to participate in this unique half-day event off Miami Beach on April 27th.

Their "boats" were non-motorized rafts made out of tractor tire inner tubes. No two rafts were the same as each captain created his own vision of what it would take to be buoyant, nimble, productive and successful. At no time could a raft be moved north (the usual direction from which sailfish travel) and every 30 minutes the north boat was taken south of the fleet. The rafts were transported to the fishing grounds by motorized craft. Unlike regular billfish tournaments, live chumming was allowed and encouraged.

Demonstrating that talent, experience and know-how outweigh the need for costly boats and high-tech equipment, the anglers had 14 sailfish releases as well as mutton snapper and bonita in an afternoon of fishing from their rafts. Near shark attacks and loggerhead turtles added to the excitement. Capt. Ray Rosher on Team Miss Britt won the event with seven sailfish tags and releases (four at one time!), donating $1,000 from The Bite to The Youth Fishing Foundation.

The event was captured on The Bite TV's Hi-Definition cameras and overhead helicopter video for a future episode. The Bite TV airs on SunSports (formerly The Sunshine Network) every Thursday at 6pm, Fridays at 1pm, and Sundays at 10:00pm.

The Bite TV Scott "Scoot" Shane, Peter Wolfson, Capt. Matt Tambor and AJ Willis, based out of Miami Beach, Florida, have been traveling from the Turks and Caicos, Costa Rica, Cape Cod, and throughout The Bahamas filming for over 18 months. New partner, Luis Bacardi, world traveling fisherman, winner of the 2004 World Billfish Series and Board of Directors member of The Billfish Foundation assisted in The Bite TV's ambition to become the first Hi-Definition fishing series.

Just when ya think it couldn't possibly get any more twisted, BAM, something like this comes along!

I'd honestly be very afraid of the fish as it is not uncommon for a billfish to come right at you with his spear. eek.gif

Looks like something that should've been invented in California. Those guys love wacky off-the-wall stuff like that. HappyWave.gif
