The Obama administration has asked the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff to cut the Pentagon's budget request for the fiscal year 2010 by more than 10 percent -- about $55 billion -- a senior U.S. defense official tells FOX News.

Last year's defense budget was $512 billion. Service chiefs and planners will be spending the weekend "burning the midnight oil" looking at ways to cut the budget -- looking especially at weapons programs, the defense official said.

Some overall budget figures are expected to be announced Monday.

Obama met Friday at the White House with a small group of military advisers, including Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. James Cartwright, vice chairman, and Gen. Jim Jones, National Security Council chairman.

I'm simply amazed how Russia,China,Hamas,Al Quida and the Taliban, developed a SECRET WEAPON to destroy this nation and we have no idea how they did it.And the weapons name.BARACK OBAMA!!!!!!

Cutting the military budget is what Bill Clinton did with adverse effects .It ALWAYS weakens the nation to do that, it brings moral of the military downward. The BO weapon will weaken the military to give money to ACORN,Bees,Grass Planting,TV cable boxes Sexually Transmitted Diseases and many other useless programs so this country can have a weak military.Just don't get it.Nice guy NOT A PRESIDENT.kooky.gifkooky.gifkooky.gifkooky.gifkooky.gif

It's not a surprise, I'm sure like Clinton he loathes the military.

I'm sure he will systematically dismantle the military at whatever pace he thinks he can get away with.

He needs the money to fight world hunger, support the UN, and for aid to our enemy's so they will like us.

As most of you know, I'm very pro military. In the name of fiscal responsibility, we should take a long hard look at the military budget. Specifically, weapon systems under development. If we don't need it right now or in the very near future, scrap it. If we are 2 or 3 generations ahead of the rest of the world in say, fighter jet technology, it would make sense to pull in the spending on more advanced stuff than we need to destroy our enemies.

We should NOT consider cutting basics, like $$ for training, ammunition, communications, etc. IMO

You want to cut billions of dollars from defense? Easy. Start with the socialist contracting rules.

Here's how it goes:

1. My unit needs a set of tools. We can get these tools ourselves from the local Sears for say, $4000.

2. Because that purchase price is too high for us to be allowed a direct purchase, we have to send the order to Contracting. They have to put it out for bids. Several come back ranging from $4500 - $10,000.

3. One bid comes back at $5500, and because it's a woman or minority-owned business, it wins the contract.

Keep in mind, the entire Federal gov't has lives by rules like this. Mandatory waste.
