Favorite Lure or Favorite Bait for Stripers

Just wondering what everyone's favorite bait or lure is for Stripers. We used 3/4oz black bucktails and Storm lures last year.

Just wondering what everyone is has been using?

Lure really depends on conditions and where/ how I am fishing. From the surf I would say a Hopkins or a white bucktail 3/4 or 1 oz. For long distance surf it would be a large stingsilver or diamond jig with a teaser.

Oops I forgot about bait. On that I would agree with SteveZ about the bunker head but also would add nice chunks of bunker if bait stealers are not too plentiful. Live spot is great but I just do not fish it very often.

Favorite bait would have to be a chunk cut from a bunker that died that morning. If I could get fresh every day there would be no need for any other baits.

Lures = Blurple bomber off the end of a rock pile.

View PostI would have to say a yozuri darter.

That's my skunk plug, I throw it when don't want to catch any fishbiggrin.gif .

I probably cach more fish on bombers and storms but enjoy fishing darters spooks and pencils most.

It all depends:

Jetty ends:

Top half of the tide, both sides, 72M PD, Windcheaters, Jigs (incl. storms et al) Darters (real darters not yo-zeros)

Bottom half of the tide, darters, bombers, l-jacks, mega-baits

Inlet:

Incoming, rigged eels

Outgoing, jigs, 72M,

Beach:

Redfins, Mambos, metal-lips, needles

That's just general. Bait, moon, wind, all factor in, there is no given.

Bait:

Pinned down - bunker. Live-lined - spot, eels

My favorite in all this is entirely dependant upon conditions.
