what size shaft

i have 1991 mako 19.3 what length shaft on motor 20 or 25

i have 115 yamaha with 20 in shaft the boat will not plane off

have to trim motor all the way down and full throttle do you think it should have a 25in shaft i got boat in summer had problem right from start changed

prop no change boat calls for 115 to 150

So if you are asking if you have the proper shaft length for your boat, here is how it is measured. The distance from the top of the transom to the bottom of the transom is the shaft length you need.

Well seeing you all ready have the motor on the boat. Simply drop the tounge of the trailer. Then lower the motor all the way down. Then eye ball the cavitation plate to the bottom of the boat. The cavitation plate should be equal to the lowest point of the transom. Haveing a shaft that is to long will effect the boat the handleing of the boat also.
