Beautifulmtairylodge
My father has a fiber glass rod from the seventies that he loves. It has some decent wear and tear and I was thinking of rewrapping it, and putting new grips and such on it. How does one put a new finish on the blank, what do you use, and should there be sanding with high grit to break up the old finish and refinish it. I appreciate your input. canyondiver
Mike, If you can wait till spring, you could come on out and we can put the blank on my lathe and wetsand it under power. I should be healed enough by mid april, and the water should be on. Proud to be a NERB and I have the shirts to prove it!!

neki
My god wetsanding a blank under power? Sounds messy Do you have a set up outside, or how do you do this if you would sir.
Ralph78
not too messy actually. As long as its is wet most of the "dust" turns to a paste that is easly cleaned up with some wet paper towles. Rod Building is an addiction, the N.E.R.B.S. help feed that addiction. redhawk19
A little alcohol and a scotchbrite and your set. Not as bad as it sounds. Just finished 7 rebuilds stripping and recoating each. One of those was a friends fathers 11' glass from the 60's... That one was a lotta fun. Did it retro with wire tich guides....
Mike Oliver
Just stay away from the high/ coarse grit or you will damage your blank horribly. Let CD do it for you. Â Mike
jamesdart
i wrap tape on the tips and chuck them right in my 1/2" holeshooter drill, starting at 120 and finer from there. usually just rattle can them, 3 coats paint, 3 coats clear, scuffed with scotchbrite between all coats. have to let them sit a while to fully cure before wrapping though. i love to redo and use old rods.
