Niffty
So I hired a freelancer to help out with one of the more time consuming market areas I handle at work. He shoots with our product. I saw him profiled in an industry publications for the same market. I figured he's a satisfied customer and already knows a little something about the product. Well we had a paid training for all of our freelancers last week and the guy apparently knows nothing. I mean we can't figure out how you could have ever handled a pro video camera and not know the stuff he doesn't understand even after you explain it to him. It gets better. Despite having had it explained to him in detail more than once, the guy can't send in a proper invoice to get paid. First off he's supposed to send in two separate invoices. One for his day rate and for per diem (food) with receipts. He sends in one invoice (not two like he should) with the wrong day rate and no receipts for meals. I explain that it's wrong and he does the same thing again. But get this. The "invoice" has one line showing the (wrong) day rate and one line showing his max allotment for per diem. No receipts. Nowhere on it does it say his name, the dates worked, the word "invoice" or an invoice number. It doesn't even say how many days he worked or a total $ amount due. The guys a self employed freelancer when he doesn't work for us - not to mention a grown man. How can you not get this when it's been explained twice?!?!?! Niffty
hey man--don't shoot the messenger. usually in situations like these, upper management looks harsher on the ass clown who hired him Luckily we were just feeling him out to see if he would work out. My boss knew that I didn't know him or his ability. We only brought him in for training, after which I told my boss I had reservations about him. If you hire me, will I get a free camera out of it? No. Freelancers aren't employees. They're vendors. I on the other hand have more cameras and lenses than I could possibly know what to do with. The guys a self employed freelancer when he doesn't work for us - not to mention a grown man. How can you not get this when it's been explained twice?!?!?! Sounds to me like you need a written policy and need to have the subs sign off on it so you both understand what is expected. We brought on 4 new guys this year; all had the same thing explained to them in person at the same time. 2 of the 4 submitted expense reports just as we asked (receipts and under a max day per diem W/ no booze on the receipt). 2 of the guys did not follow the verbal instructions. We had guys billing for canceled flights cause they booked to far out, bar bills larger than food bills etc. They simply did not get reimbursed for it. We have everything specifically to the penny that they have to sign now. Part of the problem was they did not read what is in the handbook. We make them sign now that they have read it, if they don't read it and try to bill for something that is not approved or don't have a receipt for, they don't get reimbursed. I used to get a set per diem and billed it per day W/ out receipts that is not an uncommon practice. But putting down the wrong dates is someone not paying attention.
