Mr. Bigdeal
An interesting item in the "Y is everybody stealin" post..... mentioned fishing in "Suspect Areas"....... Does anyone fish in dangerous, suspect areas in NJ, especially at night...?? Are there certain places to stay clear of for our own protection....? Save a buddy..........what should we avoid and why...? "The hungry Wolf hunts the best.... Why isn't John Moses Browning on Mt. Rushmore?

Wiseguy
Rough neighborhood-- dangerous fishing spot, especially at night: Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. ~Author unknown, attributed to Mark Twain

Striped Bass
Thats a funny pic I believe that no area is truly safe, of course some areas are more prone to crime than others, and common sense should always be used when looking for a location to go fishing. Trust no one specialty in an area that you are not to familiar with, do your homework on the area first, call local bait shops, or even the local police department and dont be afraid to ask questions, never leave valuables exposed wile untended in your vehicle or on person, always carry your cell and make sure it is an area were the cell has service and not a dead zone, always carry something on person for self defense purposes only in a worst case scenario, always plan ahead and never underestimate anything, always be aware of your surroundings, always have a plan of escape in worst case scenarios, study the area well before you venture into it. And if you are approached by someone trying to take your stuff, or cause bodily harm fight back dont just let them do what ever they want. I much rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Apexkeeper
I fish a few horrible places on the Deleware in the spring. Especially around Trenton its pretty bad at 2am... Not just your average punk theifs who steal stuff out of your truck, but crackheads, people who will litterally mug you, drunks, run of the mill crazies and more. I've had a few close calls but 9 times out of 10 if they think you can fight back they wont bother you. Most of the time they are just funny. crackheads stumble up to you and ask to borrow a sinker and wonder off into the darkness. Drunks pull their pants down and do their buisness 10 feet away from you while talking to themselves. The homeless pimps are the best. I'm always armed and never fish alone in these areas. I also make my presence and my being armed well known to everyone around me. Yet to have a serious problem. Don't look or act like a victim and you wont become one. How can sombody enjoy what they're doing if one has to resort to all these precautions.?.......All ya want to do is fish and be left alone......right? But can any locations to be avoided be discussed without the so called "Spot Burn"????.........after all you might be saving one of us injury or worse..... "The hungry Wolf hunts the best.... Very few other people fish these areas late at night for the above mentioned reasons. Thats why I do... I hate other fishermen more than I hate crackheads, pimps and theives. billfishhead
i ended up finding a dangerous spot in floridawas fishing the intercoastal waterway dow n here when i hear a comotion up in the lot where my car was. walked up to find out they were using the parking lot to store tow away cars for the night and had me blocked in. when i asked the driver os the tow truck to leave me a way out a second driver popped his head up, this one with a crowbar.when i noticed the trucks were owned by someone i knew i told them to call the boss and talk to him well, nobody calls the boss at night, soi told em to call the sherriff. a third truck shows up and now im sweating and im not leaving my car with these jerks next words out of my mouth jarred them all.................call barry baby and tell him its bill you all are f--king with. a hush fell over them then one spoke. nobdy has ever called the boss by his first name much less barry baby and i was pi--ed. a guy gets on the radio and wakes his boss up at 3 in the morning. he comes back to me and says pardon me mr. alexander we will make sure you can get out when you are ready to leave somrtimes its who you know that helps

I have heard that anywhere between Sandy Hook and Long Branch are very dangerous after dark. Better off fishing there during daylight hours or file a float plan. speedracer
Homeless people and druggies like to hang out around bridges for protection from the elements and the cops. Thats also where we go to fish. We're on their turf not the other way around. You're getting sleepy. ....very sleepy.....
