Billy 40
Get a knot book or something. SOmeoen just posted a kick ass cord grip, the guys who did this (Ken Bush) made me a Turks head a while back. Belmo
If you want to dive into the deep end of the knot pool, the book you want is Creative Ropecraft, by Stuart E. Grainger. It's out of print, but available from online sellers who sell out-of-print books. It's about $25. If all you want to do it the Turks head, with a few variations, you probably don't need to buy anything. With some creative Googling you can find what you'll need. Terri Mae does not approve this message, but screw him.

Billy 40
No need for epoxy "the internet is the greatest platform for people who don't know anything, to tell people how much they don't know, to people who don't know anything and believe everything they read." -Billy 40:
Charlie2
Billy is right. You don't need anything on the knot. It will mellow and actually look better with age. I don't do elaborate knots. Some of them in the Grainger Book would even challenge Billy and others as they can get rather involved. I do a simple one on the ends of the handle and foregrip only. It adds an 'extra touch'. I also use tarred seiners twine which packs into a really durable knot. It will even hold up to a spike. Slappy
I have posted this pic before. I am a big fan of rope grips. No epoxy unless you use macrame cord. Don't use macrame cord!! Tarred seiners twine is the most durable and will last longer than you. Slappy the Bait Shop Boy
Billy 40
Slappy, you do really nice work. I've probably said that before when you last posted this pic, lol. hopefully we'll meet up over the Winter. James3shin
Any surfcasters try using this cord stuff? How does it hold up and feel?
Ralph78
Any surfcasters try using this cord stuff? How does it hold up and feel? much better than cork tape! Charlie2
I use tarred seiners cord for my surf casters. It holds up just as well as cork or cork tape when used with a spike. I have some rods that have been wrapped with cord for many moons and they still look pretty good.. I don't use a finish on it, just wrapping tightly and wrapping in the same direction that I grip the rod. Just a personal thing. I know there are others that advocate applying a finish, but I never had to. If I did, I'd probably slap a coat of something like spar varnish on them. beached again
Turks head knot is fairly simple to do. Looks great. I have one rod that I did and it is holding up very good. I used duck decoy cord from cabelas. Where there's a will, there's a dead guy.
