more than just the gear ratio is the balance of the reel with a softer lami. your gona get more out of your cast if you use a smaller lighter size for a softer rod, aspecialy considering the spool size in relation to the guides on the rod. i used my 250 on a 10ft xs which was rather heavy. 150 or 200 would be perfect for most moderate action 10's i would say.

SS101MS + VS200 = heart.gif I have the same set up. Keep the 250 for the 11'ers.

I have a VS 250 on my GSB 1201M, and it balances great. I don't feel that the 1.5 oz you save is worth the lost line capacity between the 200 and 250, for the same reason I couldn't see buying a 100 when the 150, at 1.5oz more holds a lot more line. IMHO, for what it's worth, I think the 150, 250, and 300 cover all reasonable needs that anyone would have. I just don't get the 100 & 200.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Just out of curiosity, if the weight diff. between the 200 and 250 is .6 ounces, could you actually tell the difference between each other on the rod?

I will say this...I have a 706Z on the pole and it seems to me to be a little big. How does a 706Z compare to the VS reels in terms of size?

I have a 200 on mine and love it, but do what ever feels more comfortable to you. If you can, go to a shop that has Van Staals, and put one on the rod. I went with the 200 because at the time, I was considering also using it on my 9', but I ended up liking the the reel so much I bought a second one for the other rod a few months later. Besides who likes switching reels anyway?
