goblue
Appreciate any recommendations on any good books or dvds related to rod building. Specifically - looking to build a FLY rod this winter. No idea what I am doing... just something I want to try....and would apreciate any advice. Thanks! Belmo
There's a DVD that most of the component sellers carry. It's called The Saltwater Fly Rod, and it's narrated by Ken Preston. I haven't seen it, but I've been meaning to get it. I don't know how detailed the information is int it (one of the reasons I haven't bought it is that I'm not sure I want to shell out $30 for a video that contains stuff that isn't new to me), but if you're just starting out on fly rods, it will probably do you a world of good. Terri Mae does not approve this message, but screw him.
billfishhead
from what i understand a fly rod is a pretty bare bones rod,,,,,,not nuch to it. get the spine right and a few parts, some extremely simple wraps and you are done. guide spacing ought to be easy enough 30 bucks buys a good blank and not much more for the rest of the parts. see if your tackle dealer has a flexcoat or guidebrod pamplet on how to wrap a guide if that doesnt work out let me know and ill do a tutorial on how to build one
