Bait clips?

Anyone here use bait clips on their rigs? The US version seems to be the breakaway inpact shield, however they are more expensive than bait clips. Is there a noticable difference in using these clips...than say the cannonball rig?

I use them quite a bit. I use Breakaway's Imp clips and Genie cascade clips and I tie various rigs from single and double droppers to long fishfinders for Fluking to shark rigs with 10 foot steel cable leaders.

I've have use the Breakaway rig that was a pain to use.

I use them often for medium sized bait like a peanut, half clam or small chunk of bunker. For those sized baits they do make a difference in casting distance. I use the pulley rig because it's self tightening in flight. I also make many in two piece so I can interchange a variety of hook sizes, floats or bugs. I am replacing the shields with Imps.

 

I don't bother with them for smaller bait like worms or fisbites and their effectiveness decreases as the bait gets larger.

use them when situation calls for distance with bigger baits.

they work and are worth the time.

sgt sloughs rigs are damn near works of art!

Sgt Slough, can you share or explain your rig designs? Some of the ones I've seen are pretty complex. Also, I can't seem to find anyone in the US who carry bait clips.
