..............what makes the determination? Geography, favorite league (NFC or AFC), tradition handed down from family, team colors, history, what? Not having that situation here in the Phila. area I was wondering what determines what team your decicated too. They both play in the same stadium so its hard to tell. Are people from the far north of New Jersey more inclined to root for the Jets? Are south Jersey fans more in tune with the Giants and New Yorkers more with the Jets? There has gotta be something that seperates the fans.

People who are Classy, smart, wealthy, good looking, college educated, dating supermodels, houses in Montauk and Key west are Giant fans..

the rest are lowly jet fans... LOL

For me, I think it started before the Jets were even in existence.. My dad was a giant fan going back to 40's and 50's... its been instilled in me since I was young.. the first team I can remember is Gary Shirk, Johnny Perkins, gary jeter, van pelt, carson, kelly, g martin, beasely reece, ray phodes.. etc..

been memorizing the roster every year since then..

hm i would bet 90% of giants fans dont even meet half those requirements

in my case because i live about 15 minutes from giants stadium, i tend to root for both. i go to every home game i can get to for either team. the fact that they play in different divisions makes it even better, but if i had to side with a team id probably say giants as growing up thats who my family mainly rooted for

When I started watching football, the AFL was a joke. I lived 40 miles south of Boston and the only station carrying the Patsies was some UHF channel whose signal carried about 20 whole miles. When we played touch football, every kid wanted to be YA Tittle---no one knew who the hell Babe Parilli was cwm27.gif

The Giants were the "local" team, on TV every Sunday, and the team my dad rooted for.

Even after the merger, there were more Giants fans in RI than Pats fans. Even when the Giants were equally as bad. Mid-1970s, when the Pats got Grogan and started becoming playoff contenders, that changed.

It would have been interesting to see if the Giants had stayed good. though.

I was born into the fan base. My Dad and all my uncles were all Giants fans. Now, between freinds and family with season tickets since the Polo grounds, I have opportunities to go to games each year luckily.

I find too that most Giant fans are Yankee fans...

ME-Giants, Rangers, Yankees

For me, I'm like all the teams my DAd was a fan of. Why - because decades ago it was affordable for a family of 4 to go to games a couple of times a year. I've liked the JEts for a long time, I've been to a couple of games in SHea stadium, but the most memorable game I've been to was the best game in NFL History, when the JEts beat teh Colphins 51-45 or something. We had tickets in teh 13th row in teh end zone, and Wesley Walker caught the winning TD right in front of us.

I've been to more Giant games than JEt (but none in the past 10 years), as my uncle has season tickets, to me it seems most of the GIant fans are older adn "stuffier" than the JEts fans. At least a while back. I always had the impression teh Giant season ticket holders were business owners and VP's who were middle-upper class ++, and hte JEt fans were...not, lol.

Bob - we have the same situation in every sport, although no other teams share stadiums. I honestly do not know how somoene can be a Yankee & MEt fan, aJet and Giant fan, Ranger and Devil or Islander fan, or KNick & Net fan. IT's one or the other, adn usually you hate the other team.

in every case except football i agree. and for some reason most agree with me as well. i'm a yankee, jet, islander and knick fan.

i hate the mets, rangers (not a big hockey fan though) and the nets. but for some reason i never hated the giants.

i think the reason is that if you are a football fan in new york, you only get to really watch those two teams growing up. i watched as many giant games as i did jet games since they were the only two on tv on sunday. sometimes you'd get lucky when the other team played on monday night but for the most part you only got to watch those teams.

this was pre-directv obviously. wink.gif

There really isn't any natural rivalry between the Jets and the Giants.

In baseball, it goes back to before the Mets even existed. No self-respecting Giants or Dodgers fan could switch allegiances to the hated Yankees---not after all of the Subway Series where the NL teams almost always came out on the short end. It probably would have been an easier transition for Giants fans than the Dodger fans. The Mets were a natural for the displaced NL fans, and the traditional hatred of the Yankees went with that.

In hockey, where the 3 NY area teams beat each others brains in all through the season? Fat chance. To a lesser extent it's true in Hoops with the Knicks and Nets.

The Giants/Jets, on the other hand, never really had that same kind of rivalry. They play in the regular season maybe once ever 5-6 years. They've never met for a championship. Seasons where both have been title contenders were few and far between. There isn't really a hatred between the teams and their fans--at worst, it's kind of an indifferance. Th Giants have their division rivals, and the Jets have theirs. For most Giants fans, who to root for in a Jets/Eagles, or Jets/Cowboys, SB would be a no brainer cwm27.gif

On the other hand, 1986 was a Yankee fan's ultimate nightmare cwm31.gif
