HugeDinghy
I fished prolly about 1/4-1/2 of a "usual" year. I was consistent in my catch but not my trips. Kids and work killed my year. Anyone else in the same boat or you all a little freer then me?
Striped Bass
I believe that there are many guys in the same boat as you, due to a very poor economy, job, family etc. I myself go often but generally don't stay out to long, it depends on how much free time I have. UPSmanMatt
This year sucked, both freshwater and salt. I started off strong by catching my PB Largemouth in April (7lbs 5oz) then it just went downhill. Number of trips was even more than years past (if that's even possible) physical time on the water was more than years past, numbers as well as size were down respectively. 2007 was awesome for me, but for the most part, 2008 is forgettable. I could just never seem to get it going, I found myself doubting my abilities, lure selection at times, and sanity at other times. Maybe a break over the winter is just what the doctor ordered. Yardguy71
I really didn't go out as much as last year , I caught alot less that I did last year. Gas $$ had the most to do with it .

RI: best part of CT
Huge - that day last year I met you on Weak B'way was maybe my second trip out in 5- 6 years so anything is an improvement. Even back before I took my 6 year break I rarely fished as much as I have this year. This year I've fished several times a week since the first week of April, slowing down a bit in July and August. I'm still getting out often enough but these past two weeks have SUCKED. I was down in SOCO this morning, got there before dawn, fished til noon - had one small blue on briefly when a school chased some butterfish in near Blue Shutters - other than that Capio pisces, ergo sum. jayp195
It started out to be my best ever. Landed a 41 pounder in early may, had an even bigger one at arms length when the line parted, and several 20-25 pound fish. Then i had 2 surgeries which kept me out of fishing until Columbus Day weekend. the fall was very slow but one day i caught many schoolies. Since then, nothing. i'll give it one more shot this weekend......

big popper
my worst year i can remember .I know i didn't get out nearly as much as past years but I've taken 3or4 skunks in a row this year .i'm not used to that and i'm not saying i'm a big striper slayer or anything like that but i usually do well enough to keep the intrest.there's been times when i'm sitting at home wife and kid's are gone and i'm rationalizing why not to go fishing .when i start using vacation time to go fishing and getting skunked it get's harder and harder to keep suiting up and get out there.like you said HD the all nighters take 3 days to get wright again. Fishoholic
I got divorced this year... I haven't fished this much since i was 19 before i joined the CG. I worked as a mate last year and was on the water almost everyday fishing..but i wasn't really fishing.. more like setting the hook and handing the rod over... of which was a 45lb and 42lbs bass and a 6.5lb seabass... kinda depressing...should been my fish..lol.. nature of the beast. I will get a 50 next year to make up for it... I'm thinking about giving the surfcasting thing a shot too.. now that I have so much how-to support from my SOL brothers
Fishing For Life
I did much better earlier this season than later. I had some nice fish taken early in the upper bay, which if not for those, my season would have been a pretty big bust. It seemed like the weather didn't help either. I can remember PICTURE PERFECT weekdays and ****ty weekends. Also, with gas better than $4.25/gal all summer long, a lot of my trips were limited to the bay, which meant limited fishing also. The days of steaming to the Block for bass or the Mudhole for the big boys were nearly non-existent this season. I got to the Block once on my own boat all year long. There's always next year. And I've already stocked up on all my surf gear. I'm not missing a single second of anything next season, if I can help it. Tight lines bro's....it's going to be a LONG winter. I'll be til March. J
I fished prolly about 1/4-1/2 of a "usual" year. I was consistent in my catch but not my trips. Kids and work killed my year. Anyone else in the same boat or you all a little freer then me? Stop your complaining I have not wet a line to fish in over a year I've got three weeks and I'm down for the count with the surgery on the 9th. Can anyone put me into some keepers still? My neck is just now feeling well enough to try a few casts that aren't plug tests. I think I got enough Umph in me to fight a fish or two and if I get hurt, the hell with it. They can fix it on the 9th
T_i_G_e_R
Well, aside from sporadic childhood striper fishing, this is only my second year of obsessive, steady, intense surfcasting. I was happy to just land a "keeper" last year. This year, I did much better and got some bigger fish. I also started making my own plugs, very much a student of the vintage gibbs and musso plugs.. I guess I am a fast study in this sport. I love it. I just hope all that I am hearing about the bass numbers declining and lack of bait and stuff is just a "fluke" punn intended... The all nighters ... man.. they do take alot out of ya.. mine are 14 hours of beach casting / sleep in the car 6 hours.. back on the beach... I can't get enough.. I had a 14 hour skunk session day before yesterday... But the memories of climbing out on my rock this past september... casting out one of my home made plugs.. watching it swim.. and watching bass repeatedly whack it out of the water.. flip it up with their tails, explode on it and take off straightening the vmc's out like they were paper clips makes the whole season worth it to me... so many moments like that this season.. in all, I have to say this year was better for me than last. stripercrazy
probly one of the better years for catching yearlong good spring with bluefish on pogys summertime to early fall and fish on silversides and pogys in the fall it was a year of change...no peanuts...we seen some good blitzes with fish on silversides and I seen fish around but picky because of the big pogys they'd miss the plugs trying to cut the tails off the pogys.in the end it was a good year overall follower of rev Darryl Strawberry
