AT Grimaldi
Hello all. One of my favorite first fisheries is squiding in the Bay. It is a cold sport, but fun for the whole family and friends. I was thinking of getting one of those stainless steel patio heaters they have on sale for $129.99 at Lowe's this week for heating up the aft portion of my boat. I was thinking that if I could affix it to a 4' x4' piece of 1/2" marine plywood or Aztek-like material, it would be very stable since we jig from the hook. any thoughts or concerns? Am I a brain child for coming up with this heating system of a threat to myself and passengers? - ATG
Wayne Tj
Leave the heater at home and dress for the weather. Today's tech clothing and warm boots are warm while still giving you mobility. I don't ski with a heater, I'll be damned if I fish with one. More important is safety - you don't want an ignitable heat sources anywhere on a vessel with 100+ gallons of fuel onboard. There may even be Coast Gaurd restrictions. Plug n Flyguy
There is something about a pressurized open flame on a boat that makes me nervous. Keep in mind, there is a big difference between a magma BBQ grill and a patio heater. I'm gonna tell you it's not a good idea.
Loon
One of Garrison Keelers' classic monologues is "Pontoon Boat". Read & Heed. Growing old is mandatory; Growing up is optional.

jigger
Like all the other posters have said. You do not want any type of heat source on a boat especially one that radiates the heat. Besides it could passably melt the boat. If you think your going to get cold dress for it. If you think your hands are going to get cold use heat packs and put them in your pocket or gloves. nfnDrum
Open flame on a boat is always considered a no no but there are Flameless Catalytic Heaters you can look into if you really want one on board. Colmen makes small portables for tents and RVs ... they will not heat the outside like the big guys but a place to warm your hands at least. Parrot6909
I wouldn't do it unless you want your 15 minutes of fame now.... Most likely grab a few headlines (that you don't want) in the local paper.
ZacS
i don't think you will blow up your boat or kill anyone, but i think that thing would break in about ten seconds of pounding into 2 foot chop.
Wayne Tj
There's a reason that most marinas don't allow grilling in their slips - fire and gas don't mix. America, the country so great that even its haters refuse to leave.
mikep53
I just can't see a 6 foot tall heat source sitting in the tail of a rocking boat about 2 feet from 50 or more gallons of gas. Sounds like a death wish. Go to Eddie Bauer and buy a nice warm coat parka and gloves!

LOL. - ATG I have a pair of dickies 30 below coveralls that use to keep me warm working in the boat yard in January for 8 hrs. Throw some slicks on over them and i think you'd be good and warm.. you might look like the 2A buoy though
