SS Patio Heater on board for squid season?

Hello all.

One of my favorite first fisheries is squiding in the Bay. It is a cold sport, but fun for the whole family and friends. I was thinking of getting one of those stainless steel patio heaters they have on sale for $129.99 at Lowe's this week for heating up the aft portion of my boat.

I was thinking that if I could affix it to a 4' x4' piece of 1/2" marine plywood or Aztek-like material, it would be very stable since we jig from the hook.

any thoughts or concerns?

Am I a brain child for coming up with this heating system of a threat to myself and passengers? biggrin.gif

Leave the heater at home and dress for the weather. Today's tech clothing and warm boots are warm while still giving you mobility.

I don't ski with a heater, I'll be damned if I fish with one.

More important is safety - you don't want an ignitable heat sources anywhere on a vessel with 100+ gallons of fuel onboard. There may even be Coast Gaurd restrictions.

America, the country so great that even its haters refuse to leave.

Like all the other posters have said. You do not want any type of heat source on a boat especially one that radiates the heat. Besides it could passably melt the boat. If you think your going to get cold dress for it. If you think your hands are going to get cold use heat packs and put them in your pocket or gloves.

Open flame on a boat is always considered a no no but there are Flameless Catalytic Heaters you can look into if you really want one on board. Colmen makes small portables for tents and RVs ... they will not heat the outside like the big guys but a place to warm your hands at least.

I have a pair of dickies 30 below coveralls that use to keep me warm working in the boat yard in January for 8 hrs. Throw some slicks on over them and i think you'd be good and warm.. you might look like the 2A buoy though biggrin.gif
